Peacebuilding services are a set of activities that could lead to a memorialization project for a community. Those activities are: 

  • Archival Research

  • Land Radar Mapping 

  • Historic Cemetery Investigation

  • Memorialization Services

  • Preservation Services

The information below is intended to be used to help identify the prerequisites for Moore Grace Ministries to deliver the services listed above. The requisite information will be used to develop a Scope of Work for a Memorialization Project which would drive resources, solutions, costs and timelines.

 
 
 

Archival Research

deliverables

  • Historical and Genealogical Research of Landowner(s), Formerly Enslaved Families, and Churches

Prerequisites

  • Landowner Approval of Memorialization Project investigation via signature from authorized representatives or power of attorney document. 

  • List of:

    • African American Churches in the county. 

    • African American Funeral homes in the county. 

    • Predominantly White Churches in the county. 

    • Access to Landowners’ family history.

 

Land Radar Mapping

deliverables

  • Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) Survey and Technical Results of Burial Site

Prerequisites

  • Land Plot Map

  • In writing land access rights granted by current Landowner’s authorized representatives.

 

Historic Cemetery Investigation

deliverables

  • Collaboration & Recommendations on filing Burial Site as Historic Cemetery from North Carolina Office of State Archaeology

Prerequisites

  • Landowner approval and filing for Historic Cemetery via signature from authorized representatives or power of attorney document.

Memorialization Services

deliverables

  • Memorialization design recommendations for Landowner and Descendants of Formerly Enslaved persons to review and approve. Selection of design and construction firms. Design and construction project management services to be defined later.

Prerequisites

  • Multiple collaborative sessions with authorized representatives of the Landowner(s), Churches, Descendants of Formerly Enslaved persons, Vendors, Artists, and Professionals committed to social equity and racial peace.

  • Landowner and Descendants of Formerly Enslaved persons approval to proceed with Memorialization Project Design and Construction requirements via signature from authorized representatives or power of attorney document.

Preservation Services

deliverables

  • Preservation & Maintenance Plan recommendations via PDF document

Prerequisites

  • Collaboration with authorized representatives of the Landowner(s) and Descendants of Formerly Enslaved persons
