Pathways For Peace

Moore Grace Ministries (MGM Inc) is a non-profit 501C3 Charitable Christian organization that promotes social well-being for the public good. Building from the Gospel of Jesus Christ, MGM Inc's mission is to advance human flourishing and community sustainability through strategic projects and services. MGM Inc oversees the administration of the Pathways for Peace project (aka Pathways). Pathways is a generative peacebuilding project that promotes community sustainability by bringing churches together that have been historically separated due to the legacies of slavery to create a new narrative of their connected heritages and faith in Jesus Christ to help them to live into a better future together. The Pathways project was established to assist congregations that are seeking to demonstrate Christian belonging and unity within the Body of Christ in and around the city of Charlotte and across America.

Volunteers, referred to as leader advocates, are called from participating churches to undertake the reparative and hopeful work facilitated by MGM. That work consists of participating in interpersonal relationship training, providing congregational project updates, and site memorialization and preservation development. The MGM team examines church records, conducts oral histories, and undertakes genealogical research. We also conduct archeological audits, sexton inventories, and ground-penetrating radar surveys of church cemeteries. The intent of this information is for the congregations to have a fuller story of their linked pasts, shared faith, as they build deeper relational connections across their communities.

In building lasting connections and programming for the Charlotte church communities, Moore Grace Ministries’ partners with The Preserving Sacred Spaces Initiative (PSSI) at UNC Charlotte. PSSI is a peacebuilding initiative under the direction of Dr. Julia Robinson Moore. In addition to the UNC Charlotte collaboration, Moore Grace Ministries has other strategic partnerships. Those partnerships include Life Model Works Inc., Thrive Today Inc., SILO AR+D, New South Associates, various scholars, and vendors. All partners are committed to community sustainability.

The WHY behind Moore Grace Ministries’ commitment to the communities it’s serving through the Pathways project:

  • God’s design was for all ethnos to live well in community.

  • Choices that were made in the past that yielded slavery, segregation and injustice for formerly enslaved persons are not forgotten. Now those harms can be lived out for good.

  • God’s love for humanity is unceasing and His unwavering passion to not leave us alone in the limits we impose on ourselves is always before us.

  • Because we are children of God, we choose to love well, we honor the forgotten, and we esteem the least as we bring equity in memory and memorial to those who were formerly enslaved. Foundational Scriptures: Genesis 1:26-28, John 17:20-23, Galatians 3:27-29, Philemon v15-19
